UCF McNair Scholars Program FAQ

The University of Central Florida McNair Scholars Program is dedicated to preparing low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented undergraduate students for graduate education leading to a Ph.D.
Read through the eligibility section of our website and see if you are eligible to apply for the program.
During the summer internship Scholars receive a stipend, tuition for the academic credits earned from the internship, and assistance with room and board. There are also long-term financial advantages--see the next question.
You have to submit an application form and two faculty recommendation letters, as well as one letter of reccomendation from a member in your support system, to the program within the specified deadline. The next round consists of interviews by the selection committee.
- First, you should go to: http://mcnair.ucf.edu/application.html and fill out the online application there. Alternatively, you can print out a paper copy of the online application and bring it to the office when you turn in the rest of your application materials.
- Second, you will need official copies of all your college transcripts and a UCF SASS degree audit. You will need to go to https://my.ucf.edu/ and print a copy of your SASS degree audit. Go to “Student Self Service” and then click on “Get Degree Audit.”
- Third, you will need a copy of your financial aid eligibility, if applicable. You can obtain this by going to: https://my.ucf.edu/ There, you should click on “Student Self Service” and then “Financial Aid Summary.” If you are unable to obtain your financial aid eligibility this way, you may also visit the Student Financial Services office in Millican Hall.
- Fourth, you will need a copy of your family’s most recent tax forms.
- Fifth, you will need to write a personal statement explaining why you wish to complete the Ph.D. and how your career aspirations and goals relate to the McNair Scholars Program.
- Finally, you will need to submit all these materials to the McNair office – Room 302L or 302K in the Classroom Building I.
